Can-Am Spyder RS & RSS Modifications

This page is to give Informations on  Modifications we have found useful on the CAN-AM Spyder RS and RS-S, we want to share what we have found with other RS & RSS Spyder Riders.

When doing research on trying to see what parts can be interchanged between models we found a very helpful website Cheap Cycle Parts   that have OEM parts breakdowns on every year and model of Spyders (to go to the web page click on the name).  If you have any questions if parts are interchangeable between models all you need to look at is the part # from one model  to another (Example 2016 RS and the 2016 RT have the same steering column part# of 70901682). We found this is true with the different model years on the most part. Keep this in mind as you think about up-grading you machine and looking for parts that fit, it is not always true that certain parts fit only certain bikes.

RS and RSS Handlebar Modification
One of the concerns that we have run across since we have owned our 2016 RSS (bought brand new) was the position and pressure that leaning forward puts on your forearms, wrist and hands.  If you have any kind of arthritis in your arms or back this can be a real problem we found out the hard way, but there is a solution without buying a new bike.

FOR
2009-2012 RS,RSS,& GS
When researching parts as pointed up above, we found that 2009-2012  have the same design steering column  but can not be interchanged with the RT or ST models of these years. These models have three bolt pattern riser and a different column as seen in the following photo.

Due to the 3 bolt flange to upgrade to a different handle bar or riding position we found the following options.

Brand: Rivco Part No: CA017
There are different version and brands of this type of riser, you will also need to modify (cut) your existing handlebars for this modification ●This Brings controls back 3 ½” towards rider ● Reduces neck and back strain ● Corrosion resistant black anodized finish and stainless steel hardware ● Uses all factory hoses, wiring, and cables- The cost is around $199.00 USD
Brand: Phoenix Products Part No: 0602-0564
One-piece 7071 billet aluminum construction. 1.5" rise, 4" set-back from stock. Billet ignition relocator is included Stock steering lock works. Aluminum finish, The cost is around $369.00 USD

Brand: CAN-AM Part No: 219400241
This will increases height of handlebars for additional comfort and a more relaxed ride, especially for taller riders. 1" (25 mm) cast aluminium construction. Works in conjunction with all stock wiring and cables. The cost is around $50.00 USD

FOR
2013-2016 RS & RSS
When researching parts as pointed up above we found that 2013-2016  have the same design steering column and  can  be interchanged with the RT or ST models of these years. These models have four bolt pattern riser and a different column from the previous year as seen in the following photo.

Due to the 4 bolt flange to upgrade to a different handle bar or riding position we found the following options

The RT and ST stock handlebars will fit as long as they have the four bolt pattern . You will reuse the end of the handle bars from the original bars. This option uses all factory hoses, wiring, and cables. These can be picked up on Ebay for around $30.00 to $250.00.
Tri Axis Adjustable Handlebar
 Brand: Can-AM Part No: 219400414 / 219400344
State-of-the-art adjustable handlebar reduces fatigue and delivers comfort for all riders thanks to unlimited adjustment possibilities. 3 different axes allow you to adjust the handlebar in terms of height and width, and rake. Left and right bars are linked together and rotate simultaneously during adjustment. Easy Allen key adjustment system. Handlebar reuses existing production handgrips, comodo, electrical and clutch cables, and sits directly on the stock steering column
GPS Support for the Adjustable Handlebar (219400408) sold separately. Sold in Black or Chrome. Best prices on this option is on Ebay from $350.00 to $675,00. See the below Video.

Even though the Tri Axis Adjustable Handlebar ads state it only can be mounted on the RT we found out that isn't totally true. This is the option that we decided on for our 2016 RSS and all the hardware matches up as long as you have the four bolt flange on your steering column.  There was very little modification needed to fit on the RSS, all that was needed is to cut two small notches in the plastic wire/key assembly cover. If your are trying to customize the bike to your riding style and position this is the biggest bang for the money and is well worth the expense.

Spyders are very unique machine's and that makes Spyder Ryders unique riders.  It's not much different how we are all created unique and special. God is the potter and we are the clay. Isaiah 64:8 "Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand" He made us all perfect having our own uniqueness. Some people have blue eyes, brown eyes, some people can do this, some people can do that, some people are right handed, some people are left handed. You were made for a purpose. Just like you might be modifying your Spyder to fit your purpose. God made us to fit His purpose.

God has a plan for everyone and we are all an individual member of the body of Christ. You are a masterpiece. As you grow more and more as a Christian you will truly see how special and unique God created you. As you Modify your machine to your style you make it special and unique for you just like you have been created.  Every Time you make that special modification to your Spyder to make it better to fit your needs, think about how God is working in your life making you better to fit His plans for you.

Keep checking this page for new Modifications, we will be posting them as we run across the and/or do them to our RSS.

And remember to;
PRAY UP BEFORE YOU MOUNT UP
And Ride Safe

    1. Knowledge produces Faith, so Faith is knowledge-based! When one gains knowledge of the truth, he works according to the knowledge he has.
